These are pretty cozy, good for playing in the snow, and they have good grip and Velcro adjustment to fit the wrist well.
For a 9-10 year old, this size, “9-12,” is going to generally be good unless their hands are quite small. For 11-12, though, I would consider getting something else as the fingers of these are quite short. That said, they aren’t totally unwearable even if the fingers don’t come all the way to the bottom knuckles because for plush gloves like this, they are mostly used to grab, and it is easy, even with fingers longer than these by, say, the end joint (approaching adult size), to grab things like ski poles and to use fingertips and thumbs to grab as well. Still, know that if your young one has fingers anywhere near that of a small adult female (the 11 year old that tried these out has fingers almost the same length as mine), they might not be the best and will more quickly be grown out of, too.
They are quite warm and cozy, and the grip is good. I don’t know that they’d last more than a busy ski season if your child is a frequent winter ski bunny, but they are solid for gripping slippery railings even if not a skier or snowboarder. The TPU grip material also makes the palm puncture- and tear-resistant to a point so prickly tree bark or splinters won’t be as likely to poke into the material.
The fleece inside is warm, but it is not breathable, so some kids might get sweaty hands and want to take them off more often than they would were the lining something like merino which is what mine are lined with (and makes them fine indoors for a while if I don’t want to keep putting them on then taking them off).
All in all, they are attractive in the blue color, the grip is nice, and they are fairly warm. Your kid’s mileage will vary, of course, and the sweater-like fabric that pops out can get wet and make their hands soggy in a hurry, so if they are pulling that out, be sure their jacket is snug enough to cover the glove and not let snow make their wrists icy cold!
